About the Guest

[02:40]

Jerri Banks is Life on the Road Recruiting & Transportation Services CEO, a full-service third-party truck driver recruitment agency. Known widely in the trucking industry as Mrs. Jerri, she has spent well over 24 years in transportation in various capacities, trainer & facilitator, conference keynote speaker, panelist, operations manager, and now entrepreneur. The bulk of her career was spent as a Senior Leader at a private aviation company called Universal Weather and Aviation.

About the business

[07:01]

After Mrs. Jerri left the aviation industry, she met someone who introduced her to the truck service industry. Since opening in 2017, Life on the Road Recruiters has become masters of our craft. Her commitment to working with quality trucking companies that care about their drivers has enabled them to support hundreds of Class A CDL Truck Drivers in their quest to find the right job that works for them and their families.

[09:30]

Life on the Road Recruiting & Transportation Services has over 60 different carriers they offer in the market. They have 50 small trucks that support many drivers for living. Their agency supports their drivers in a sense by providing their benefits.

Niche in business

[10:47]

Mrs. Jerri offers the doors for a second chance truck company because she was inspired to give them a second chance at jobs they would have otherwise not found. It is decent employment with fair wages and keeps most felons out of prison. The US has experienced a shortage of truck drivers in recent years, making trucking jobs available for most felons. The second chance truck companies have become a viable source of employment for felons.

[19:37]

Mrs. Jerri supports initiatives that help provide opportunities to everyone who wants—and deserves—a second chance. One mistake shouldn’t have to lead to a lifetime of punishment. They committed to working within their communities at her company to help provide opportunities to those who need them most. Whether it’s a reliable ride across town or the ability to pay bills at the end of the month, everyone should have the same chance. Jerri and her team take extreme pride in having connected hundreds of drivers with a trucking company to call home during a historic truck driver shortage.

Drug-Related Concerns in Trucking Industry

[25:30]

With the rise of the CDL Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse database, they now have a much clearer picture of DOT drug testing violations in the trucking industry. The reality is that the Clearinghouse database is making the roads safer by stopping one critical issue –drivers that were tested positive or refused a pre-employment drug test were job-hopping, so a carrier would not pick up on the violation. Most of these second chance trucking companies offer high payment and excellent benefits and incentives to workers. This creates a more comfortable work experience for workers, and ex-felons can use this chance to re-integrate into society.

Using social media to make awareness

[29:45]

Living in a fast-paced society, Mrs. Jerri and her team use different social media platforms to spread awareness to the drivers. Especially industry experts for drivers who have experienced a violation in the Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse. Their goal is to help Class A CDL drivers get a true second chance at trucking.

New Program

[34:58]

Mrs. Jerri proudly announces that they have a Drugs and Alcohol consortium where they support carriers that need management for their pre-employment setup. They also help assist drivers who have violations that need support for follow-up testing to return to the job.

Offer to the Youth

[40:36]

Trucking has always attracted hard-working, resourceful, independent, and goal-oriented men and women looking for opportunities. As the economic recovery continues, it also attracts people looking for a second chance. The shortage of qualified truck drivers has spelled opportunities for people looking for new careers coming out of the recession. Therefore Mrs. Jerri wants to promote this industry to the youth.

Jerri Banks is the Owner and Founder of Life on the Road Recruiting & Transportation Services, a full-service truck driver recruitment agency. In addition, Mrs. Jerri also founded Life on the Road Recruiting University, where she educates and mentors new truck driver recruiters on driver sourcing, as well as trucking companies on how to source and retain their truck drivers. Known widely in the trucking industry as Mrs. Jerri, she has spent well over 24 years in transportation in various capacities; Trainer & Facilitator, Conference Keynote Speaker, Panelist, Operations Manager and now Entrepreneur.

From her speaking engagements at truck driving schools to her social media platforms and YouTube channel, Life on the Road Recruiting, Mrs. Jerri spends countless hours educating truck drivers and companies about various topics in the trucking industry. She places a particular focus and has niched her agency down to supporting drivers that have had a violation in the DOT/FMCSA's Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse. Mrs. Jerri has the only platform in the trucking industry that is educating truck drivers on the possibility of gaining employment after a violation in the clearinghouse. She has been told by many truck drivers that she is a voice to the voiceless and hope for those that have lost all hope of continuing a career in truck driving after a violation.

The bulk of her career in transportation was spent as a Senior Leader at a private aviation company called Universal Weather and Aviation, where she led a team of Trip Support and Regulations Specialists whose sole focus was to work with private aircraft owners and various government entities within the US and across the globe to create their flight plans, weather packages, and successfully secure permits to overfly different countries.

In 2017, Jerri officially 'retired' from Corporate America and set out to blaze a new path for herself with the aim to devote more time to her family and the youth basketball and community service organization that she runs alongside her husband called the Houston D1 Hornets. Shortly after her departure from corporate, Mrs. Jerri opened her Truck Driver Recruiting agency where she and her team have helped countless drivers and companies connect. During a historic truck driver shortage, Jerri and her team take extreme pride in having connected hundreds of drivers with a trucking company to call home.
