(Season 1) Ending Oct. 25

Greetings Everyone!  In this episode, our guest is Christopher Nerat, a veteran in the fitness industry. He created Fit4Truckers which are exercise programs for professional truck drivers. He then combined the exercise routines with motivational and educational content so drivers could take a fitness coach with them on the road. His program aims to empower professional truck drivers to take control of their health and well-being and provide them with the daily inspiration and support necessary to achieve and maintain fitness success. Today, Chris talks with us about how truckers can stay fit and healthy. Sit back, relax, and enjoy!

About Christopher

Chris grew up with two brothers in a small town in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. He has two brothers. He didn’t have any fascination for sports, but he did have a fascination for martial arts. This became one of his motivators for what he does right now and is one of the foundations of his upbringing.

How Chris became interested in the Trucking Industry

Chris’ interest in the trucking industry was garnered back to martial arts. Growing up with low self-confidence, he wanted to take care of and protect himself. With martial arts, his self-confidence was honed. When working in manufacturing for a company, he saw truck drivers coming in and out. So with his love for helping others, he wanted to help truck drivers get fit.

How Chris Developed his Mindset

Chris developed his mindset because of his upbringing and background in martial arts. When he was just starting martial arts, his instructor saw something within him. They constantly encouraged Chris to believe in himself. When the time came when he had to do a demonstration in front of a lot of people, he froze. After that, his instructors encouraged him to do better and learn from his mistakes. When he faced his brother, he then beat him, which knocked the walls of disbelief in Chris. He realized that “If you believe you can, you can. If you believe you can't, you can't. It's just as simple as turning your mind to the other side.”

Positive Influences

Chris says that we're bombarded all day long with negativity. The more you allow yourself to be subjected to that, it can just drag you down. If people around you can influence you, the same can be true for the positive influences.

Fit4Truckers Program

The program is a 90-day fitness challenge for truckers. Exercise is done with your body weight, and one resistance band is all you need to bring yourself through this 12.

When a person sets out to make a lifestyle change, the program has 90 different ways to help them. The program will help with their positivity, goal setting, nutrition, exercise, confidence, and self-empowerment. There are 90 touch points in every challenge that remind them why they are doing the lifestyle change. Some videos help remind them that every single day, they're in the challenge.

The Top 3 Health Issues that Truckers are Prone to

The first one is obesity. There are also offshoots of diabetes and high blood pressure. There are also musculoskeletal injuries. These come from having a sedentary lifestyle and smoking or drinking alcohol.

Chris’ Goal for his Program

One of the things that Chris wants to see with his program is that companies are getting involved with other employees about their health. Instead of having a program only for truckers, Chris wants to get the entire company to be part of his program. He aims to bring that camaraderie moving between them and get some commonality.

Ideal Food for Truckers

Chris says ideal foods for truckers are hardboiled eggs, meat jerky, and vegetables. Fruits and snacks are bananas and nuts, and seeds. Truckers need to have water and limit their sugary drinks.

Valuable Nuggets

“Life is too short,” Chris says that it just seems that you want to do it. Stop procrastinating and just do it. Tear the band-aid off and do it. If you want to lose weight, go on a diet and change your career. Stop making excuses about why you can't and start looking at all the reasons why you should and just start. There are plenty of people out there that can help.

I have been helping people of all ages and abilities stay motivated and committed to achieving their fitness and weight loss goals for the past 30 years.

In my early 20’s as a Tae Kwon Do student my instructors told me I had a gift for teaching others, and that I should not waste it. Those words, along with my instructor’s continuous praise and reassurance led me to teach my first class in 1984, and changed my life forever.

I went on to earn my 2nd Degree Black Belt and continued teaching martial arts for the next 15 years. In the spring of 2000, I became an A.C.E. Certified Personal Trainer and began living my dream of working full-time as a fitness professional. I have since owned and operated both a small personal training studio and health club, and served as the Director of Training and Development for a large health club franchise.

In April of 2015 I took a leap of faith. I left my corporate job to go back to what I am most passionate about and to what gives my life purpose. I needed to know that my work would make a difference in people’s lives, and with that, I founded Fitnessworkz and the Fit4Truckers program.
